  • Damaris is not deaf. She was referred for further testing after her hospital test. (Notice she did not fail her hearing test-- she was referred.) The test involved keeping a one month old infant awake for two hours before the appointment-- and you weren't to feed her. Then they attached electrodes to her head and told you to put her to sleep for an hour. Couldn't have done it without Mom and Grammie. They helped me keep her awake and in possession of all my faculties. We arrived at Dartmouth two hours before the appointment and experienced some tribulation keeping Damaris awake the first hour. The second hour went more smoothly, with less fussing. We were sent to a small sound-proof room for one test, then went into a bigger regular room for the one hour test. The specialist told me that infants who fail two tests in the hospital generally have some problem, but Damaris does not. They probably got a false reading because of fluid in her ears.

  • Sorry for those of you who wanted an April Fool's baby. Damaris just did not cooperate! On the other hand, I am hopeful that things will work out at work for my maternity leave after all. Barbara came in yesterday and learned a lot. We'll see if it stuck when she comes in today. We also have a potential for the page position, which means that we might have someone who knows a little about computers the Saturdays Barbara works. And if I check in once a week or so-- it shouldn't be too frightening when I come back to a whole new automation system (thanks LibraryWorld for planning the upgrade for the exact time we will be going public) and SRP about three weeks away.
